When the weather's too gray to go for a drive, kick it in this collection of recent racing Mac games featuring slick rides and unusual twists and turns.

1. Spectra

This twitch racer showcases one of Chipzel's latest albums, allowing the player to experience each of the chiptune tracks on offer by way of luminescent neon fast-paced levels. It's not as complex as Audiosurf, but it has the same joyful spirit and unstoppable vibe.

2. Coffin Dodgers

As far as Mario Kart-inspired games go, Coffin Dodgers has got to be one of the more original takes on the concept. If you've played Mario Kart, then you already know the mechanics in play, but the conceit — elderly folks race on customizable scooters in order to evade the Grim Reaper — is adorable enough to help the game stand out from the crowd.

3. Car Mechanic Simulator 2015

If your favorite aspect of racing games is leveling up cars, looking at cars, fixing cars, and thinking about cars ... then this is the 'racing' game for you. Car Mechanic Simulator does exactly what it says on the tin; you'll finally be able to focus on fine-tuning as many vehicles as you want, or at least as many as you can afford. DLC purchases abound, but at least you'll be getting a bang for your buck if this type of game scratches your car collector itch.

4. Crash Drive 2

Multiplayer racers that encourage players to ram cars and destroy monster trucks abound, but Crash Drive 2 is one of the few that nails the mechanics without mucking up the carefree simplicity of the demolition derby premise. You can find the game for free on iOS and in browsers, but the $5 Steam version includes an extra copy for a friend, so why not kick the developers some cash?

5. Audiosurf 2

I've saved the best for last: Audiosurf 2 is the priciest racer on this list, and with good reason. This rhythm game allows you to import your own music library, after which it will build a racing-themed rhythm track based on your songs' climaxes and cool-downs. New to Audiosurf 2 is a 'surfing' mode that allows players to intentionally distort bits and pieces of songs as they play.

Concepts everywhere

Another day, another iPhone 12 Pro concept. How much would you pay?

If reports are accurate we might be waiting a little while longer than normal for iPhone 12 Pro. But would you care if it looked like this?

6 different classes of powerful rally vehicles… 13 different, challenging tracks set in all four corners of the globe… This is rally driving as it should be – a grueling test of your circuit handling and driving ability, your nerve, and your appetite to be the best! Turbo Rally is a no-holds-barred, time trial-based rally racing game for speed merchants of all ages where you have to blaze a trail on 13 intricate and difficult global rally circuits. Progress from a cool, mini 150cc racer to a NASCAR-style monster car as you progress through the ranks on an awe-inspiring quest to become World Rally Champion!

Tinker with your machines, find secret shortcuts, and hone your own unique driving skills in this authentic and remarkable journey. Time is the only opponent that you have to overcome – but don’t be fooled by the lack of physical adversaries! These top-notch lap times are truly a worthy foe! Screech around corners, avoid cheekily-placed obstacles, and turbo boost your way into the record books as the fastest rally driver on the planet. Records are there to be beaten, the only question is – are you a Record Breaker? So, let’s get down to the start line Speedster, we need your talent to shine!

How to Play: There are 13 multi-terrain race circuits spread across 6 continents (North America, Europe, Asia, Australasia, Africa & South America). Each circuit has a 1, 2 & 3-star lap record. To progress to the next circuit, you have to complete a race in a better time than (at least) the 1-star lap record. Use the Arrow Keys or the WASD keys on your computer keyboard to control your vehicle. Up Arrow / W = Accelerate; Down Arrow / S = Brake &Reverse; Left & Right Arrows / A & D = Steer. When your Boost Bar in the bottom left corner of the game screen is full, press the X or N Keys to give your car a quick burst of speed. Collect the red T Coins dotted along the track to increase your Boost Bar.

Keep an eye on the lap records in the top left corner of the game screen. If you fail to achieve at least a 1-star Record, you cannot progress to the next track. There are other cars on the track for aesthetics (but you don't race against them), so try to avoid any collisions as these only slow you down momentarily. In between each race, you can upgrade your car using virtual income earned by good race finishes. When you have amassed sufficient funds / unlocked sufficient levels, you can upgrade to the next best car; there are 6 in total (Mouse, Lancer, Subway, Impresso, Super & Revo). The further you progress, the more advanced your car needs to be to ensure race success.

Tip: As well as collectibles such as 'gold trophies dotted in secret places along each circuit', there is also at least one shortcut on each track. If you find this secret shortcut, your chances of achieving a 3-star lap time greatly increases!
